I first learned about The 12 Steps when I worked as a Dietitian and realised some people were finding The 12 Steps gave them the tools to overcome compulsive patterns of eating. Later, as a Salvation Army Officer (minister/pastor) I attended a 12 Step course for myself and found the way The Steps engage with faith helped me examine my own relationship with God, and they gave me a framework for addressing my own unhelpful behaviours.
Originally created as The Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous these steps are now used by millions of people the world over as a way of re-focussing one’s life. They are a gentle and grace-filled guide to dealing with life whenever it feels unmanageable. The Steps take truth found throughout the pages of the Bible, and translate this truth into a practical guide to recovery from any of life’s challenges.
